Since 1890 the Garman Opera House has been offering entertainment to the Bellefonte area.

Built originally as a venue for live performances, the Garman was a stop on the vaudeville circuit. Such notables as Harry Houdini, George Burns and Gracie Allen, The Flora Dora Girls and Tom Mix have performed onstage.

With the arrival of the "talkies" the Garman became a movie house in 1931 and continued to show feature films until 1961.The demise of small town theatres caused the Garman to serve as a furniture warehouse for 29 years. In 1990 the Garman was completely renovated and once again became a live performance theatre until 1999. In July 2000 the Garman Opera House was reopened as a movie theatre. Feature films, classic, art and foreign films are played daily on our large screen. Digital surround sound and reclining seats are some of the amenities in our 335-seat capacity facility.
